> Facilitating a discussion on joint action among networks
In order to achieve this, Bridge Initiative has started facilitating discussions among members of different groups : GCAP (Global Call for Action against Poverty), World Social Forum, Civicus, Crid, Coordination of National Platforms, UGCLA (Local Authorities), ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation) and now offers to initiate a collective brainstorm on : http://o-change.org/nov15
IMAGINE IF :
- GCAP’s mobilizing capacity (116 million people in 131 countries just took part to « Stand Up and Take Action Day » on October 17th)
- the “polycentric” strength of members of the World Social Forum in their diversity
- the recent alliance of 90 National Platforms of NGOs
- Networks such as CIVICUS or Action Aid, etc,
- Social Movements including the International Trade Unions Confederation, which has just organized a Global Day on October 7th.
- The network of Local Authorities..
- And others
Were to join forces rather than to compete for space..
OPPORTUNITY NOW:
- The opportunity to have Civil Society Voices be heard is indirectly provided by this G8-G20 Special Summit in Washington on November 15th and even before that by a special Davos Summit (in Dubai!) on the Financial Crisis on November 7th-9th. Cf. below(*)
- The media itself is actually hungry for more content on how to analyze the crisis. The special G8 Summit won’t be easy to cover for them and not very “visual,” mainly speeches. Not a “good” story. Plus the general shift in analysis and in governments’ behaviours and policies is paving the way for the media to pay more attention to ideas that were considered not so long ago as “irrelevant” or unreasonable.
- Following the enthusiasm for Obama’s election, there might be curiosity for anything showing that Change is Possible, and that people are demanding real Change.
- Remember November 15th is a couple of weeks before the Doha Conference on Financing for Development and the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. And « SAVE LIVES AND JOBS, NOT BANKS » could have an impact on those conferences.
